The Department of Journalism and Digital Media is organizing the 2024 edition of Media Culture Days on May 31 2024. Presentations will be selected by the organizers of each section (contact below). Deadline for submissions & selections is May 26 2024.
We welcome Communication Sciences students to participate in a series of events with presentations in English, Romanian, Hungarian or German. The Journalism and Digital Media Department at Babeș-Bolyai University’s College of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences invites submissions for the 2024 students’ competitions.
Bachelor and Master Students in Communication Sciences and related fields from Romanian Universities may apply by May 26 2024. The selected submissions will be presented in the events which will be scheduled on May 31, as part of the FSPAC Students’ Conference. The events will take place in Cluj-Napoca, in the FSPAC buildings on Minerilor St. 85 and Traian Moșoiu St. 71.

The Journalism and Digital Media Department at the College of Political, Administrative and Communication Sciences, Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca invites you to submit research projects for the “Media and Society: Models, Representations and Current Phenomena” Student Conference. This annual conference celebrates its 16th edition and brings together Bachelor’s and Master’s students in English, Romanian, Hungarian, and German language panels to present their research projects, receive feedback and discuss opportunities for further research. All students with research interests in Journalism, Communication, and Digital Media are encouraged to participate.
Profile Writing

Inspirational stories, stories of hope, stories of resilience. Nowadays, media outlets exploit this journalistic genre because characters’ emotions and beliefs allow the audience to take part in the story. The aim of this competition is to encourage students to explore the background and character of a particular person. The focus should be on aspects of the subject’s personal or professional life. Students are invited to submit their long-form journalism pieces, which fall under the portrait category (interview or feature). We accept submissions in Romanian and in English.
Audio Storytelling

Audio storytelling is reinventing itself in the digital age. The production of audio content has been developing and fascinating the listeners for already a century – from radio news reporting to creative narrative podcasts defined by scholars as a cultural practice of producing and consuming digital sound content. Students are invited to submit their audio / radio production produced within the last year and participate at the news features, podcasts and other innovative digital audio productions categories, that are to be judged by professionals and faculty staff. The awarding ceremony will also host a short debate on digital radio industry.

The photo contest featuring the year’s best student work in photojournalism – for categories NEWS PHOTO, STREET PHOTOGRAPHY, PHOTO STORY, PHOTO PORTRAIT, NATURE and TRAVEL – will announce the winners in the presence of professional photojournalists and professors of photography. The awarding ceremony will be followed by a short debate that will explore the digital transformation in photojournalism when it comes to the production, the distribution and the consumption of photography. Students who are interested to participate in the competition are kindly asked to submit photos taken during courses or extra-curricular projects in the last year. Images sent must be at a crop size of 20 × 30 cm, a resolution of 300 DPI and a minimum of 3000 × 2000 pixels, and can be taken with a camera or with a mobile phone. Together with the photos, student’s contact details (name, surname, name of the University, email address and telephone number) and photo captions (presentation of the character and the story behind the image) are also required for registration in the competition.
Media Entrepreneurship

The aim of the competition is to encourage and stimulate media entrepreneurship among future journalists and digital communication professionals, to provide them with platform to showcase their work and as a way of recognizing their achievements. Even more so, the event provides the right framework for academic discussions and debates on issues specific to media entrepreneurship, such as revenue models, crowdfunding, allocation/management of resources, crowd-sourcing, content strategies, digital platforms, emerging media projects , labor market integration etc., topics of increased interest for future communication professionals.
